Knowing which moon phase we are currently in can help us to arrange and run our lives more smoothly. Below is an introduction to the Moon Phases giving an insight into which is the best phase to do things in our day to day lives to help achieve the best result.

The New Moon

The New Moon, can be seen as a symbol of new beginnings, it is a good time to start new work projects and build new relationships, a time for new challenges and new cycles. This is not a time to analyze but to allow things to grow and flourish. Any new starts at this time will grow and develop. Our energy levels are usually high at this time.

The Crescent Moon

The Crescent Moon, can be seen as a time of transition when we become aware that although we are still influenced by the past, it is over and the promise of the future is yet to be revealed. There are things from the past that we may have to lay to rest before moving forwards to fulfil our hopes and dreams. You may find that this is a good time to open up and talk.

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon, is a time when things are starting to come to a peak you may feel a slight irritation but this is just due to the need to sort things out, as yet you may not know what needs sorting. Step back and assess things objectively. It’s a time for looking at ideas and searching for solutions to any problems that may have arisen. This can prove to be a very sensitive time, but can also bring you the courage needed to help you to move forward.

Gibbous Moon

The Gibbous Moon, is a good time to devote ourselves to that which has great meaning to us. We are able to use our mental abilities which are very clear during this time. You may have truly brilliant discoveries or ideas and can look clearly at what you have already accomplished. Due to our heightened energy levels we are able to give more of ourselves.

Full Moon

The Full Moon, often during this time we are able to see ourselves clearly and any hidden tensions within are revealed. We are able to see both sides of any issue and we are able to work on any imbalances. This is an excellent time to meditate in relation to any personal issues that may be concerning you. A time for acknowledgments and answers to things that may have been hidden from view until now. It is also a good time for romance and fertility.

Disseminating Moon

The Disseminating Moon, this is often when we are aware of what we have already learned and we have probably have learned our lessons well. It is a time to take any social obligations sincerely. You may feel strongly that you want to pass on those hard learned lessons.  At this time you may wish to share your knowledge and wisdom with others.

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon, is a time when all aspects of our lives that need balancing are magnified, a time to tie up those loose ends, and a time of conscious action. You  have the ability to choose how to act or react and you are in charge of the outcome of any difficult situations. It is up to us whether we act or not.

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon, is a time to reap what you have sown. If you have learned those lessons then you are now able to move on. This is a time of karma, this is when the outcome, is out of our hands and we have to accept the decisions we have made previously. This is a good time to let go of the past and get ready to move on.

May – Flower Moon

may flower moon - Copy

On May 10th we have the full moon in Scorpio.

The flower moon in Scorpio invites us to embrace love, intelligence and creativity, it leads us to try and experience new things, as well as heal and release old emotions. Don’t not forget that Scorpio has a sting in its tail, so take each new step slowly and calmly.

It is the fifth full moon of the year, the name of the month comes from Maia, the roman goddess of fertility, chastity, wealth and health. May is the month of flowers and berries, the time to fill our home with flowers.

The moon of May is powerful for performing all kinds of magic to develop and strengthen your spiritual side as well as a time of transformation and understanding your personal power by knowing that you are not alone, and that you have a team of spirit guides and angels that are on your side to help you move through life.

Many astrologers and ancient cultures have always believed that the Scorpio full moon is one of the most powerful for reaching out to ancient ancestors and guardian spirits. It is also believed to be one of the best full moon’s for rituals and manifestation work and psychic readings.

With so much magic energy circling in the first part of May, it is going to be impossible not to feel the effects of this full moon.

When the moon is in the water signs like Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces it is a good time for magic involving the element water, for increasing our intuition and to bring about changes.

When the moon is in Scorpio, it is also good for revealing secrets using magic, spells and rituals, related to passion, love and intense emotions, It is the best night to make love potions and spells, so during this moon why not take full advantage of her power 🙂

You can use it to combat apathy or depression if you have been feeling a little off balance lately.

It is the moon of knowledge, the best moon to conjure spirits that reveal the past and the future of things. The full moon nourishes us with energy in every aspect of our life, but not everything is love or light remember that the moon also has its dark side that assumes an important role in balancing our emotions and different facets, the moon in Scorpio produces uncomfortable situations where jealousy, resentment, revenge, violence, desires and passions are intermingled.

Rituals & Magic

This lunar phase is a good time to carry out regressions, have psychic / future readings and strengthen clairvoyance.

On this moon you can also invoke water nymphs and inhabitants of the deep sea.

Use blue shades green candles for rituals, altars should face west if possible.

Crystals: Moonstone, Emerald, Amber, Jade and Pearls.

Moon flowers: Lilies & Roses

Colours: Yellow, Blue and all shades of Green.

Animal, the Bull and the Eagle.

Incense, Angelica, Cinnamon and Star anise

Maia, goddess of prosperity and health with her blessing you receive calm to make good decisions. Draw the magic circle, this time we can do this either in a room or in an open space. Burn some cinnamon sticks or incense, fill a small cauldron with a blend of essential oils that have floral scents, your choice, flower petals of different colours, sugar, cinnamon and a piece of peridot or agate, while mixing recite the following.

“We wake Nature up and in this ritual we invoke its spirits, make me tolerant, make me patient, make me wise and accompany me in every choice and every step with calm and wisdom.”

Remove the crystal from the mixture and bury it as an offering to the spirits. You can use the mixture try adding it to your bath.

Love Spell

During May full moon we can make this simple but effective love spell place in your Altar some flowers and roses, symbolizing the nature and the power of spring. In a circle made with rose petals place a rose quartz, burn a jasmine incense stick and light a strawberry or other scented candle, write in a paper or parchment your full name and that of your loved one, write your love one’s initials on a rose petal and your initials on another rose petal.

Place both petals and the parchment inside of an envelope with the crystal, close it and anoint it with a few drops of essential oil roses or jasmine oil at each end, leave it on the altar until midnight, then light a new red candle and burn it. The only thing left will be the rose quartz and ashes, which you will bury in a garden the following morning.

If you have been thinking about having a reading, to see where your life is heading this would be a good week to book one and start to make some positive changes.

February Full Moon Magic

February Full Moon – Snow Moon/Quickening Moon

In February, the nights are cold and we begin to feel a bit of cabin fever. This month’s full moon is called the Quickening Moon – in some places, it’s referred to as the Ice Moon, for obvious reasons. In other places, it’s known as the Hunger Moon. It’s the time of year when our ancestors began to feel the bite of winter in their bellies, sitting by a dwindling fire in the long dark night, wondering if they had stockpiled enough bread or meat or grain to get them through until spring.

By now, most of us are tired of being cooped up in the house, and there’s a part of us that’s just longing for a bit of warmth. This is the season of Imbolc, the days when we know that if we can just hold on for a few more weeks, we might get lucky and see little green shoots peeking out through the snow and slush.

Correspondences for Feb’s Full Moon.

Colors: Purple and blue
Gemstones: Rose quartz, amethyst, jasper
Trees: Rowan, Myrtle
Gods: Brighid, Aphrodite, Juno, Mars
Herbs: Hyssop, sage, myrrh
Element: Fire

Moon Magic.

This is a month when new life is beginning, but still lies dormant. Pregnant animals, due in the spring, begin to feel the quickening of their unborn young. The earth itself is quickening, as seeds and bulbs far beneath the soil begin their journey towards the light. We know these things are coming and we know also that this is a good month to make plans for the future. We can dream and hope, and set goals for ourselves. Accept responsibility for mistakes you’ve made in the past, and move on. Magical workings this month should focus on personal achievements and advancement.

Try one or more of these for a bit of Moon magic this month.

Plant some seeds in a pot of warm soil, to represent not just the new life that is beginning in the earth, but also the things you hope to achieve this year. If you’re planning a magical herb or flower garden, select your seeds based on the needs of the coming seasons.

Perform a meditation to do a bit of self evaluation. Do you need to rethink the baggage you’re carrying around? Maybe this is the year you make big changes? A bit of reflective meditation is a good way to gain focus not only on what you hope to achieve, but the path you’ll need to take to make things happen.

Do a winter full moon ritual, to reflect on darkness of the season, and know that without it, there can be no light. Think about what brings darkness to your own life, and recognize that if you never faced the dark, you’d have far less appreciation for the light.

This is a season of hearth and home. If you’re someone who’s crafty, get hands on with your magic. Develop your skills and hone your talents, and channel that creativity into magical purposes knit a warm hat or scarf to wear for outdoor rituals, sew a new altar cloth, craft some jewellery that reflects your beliefs, or write a song or poem honouring the gods and goddesses of your tradition.

Thanks to its proximity to Imbolc, the Quickening Moon season is a time of magical energy related to the feminine aspect of the goddess, of new beginnings, and of fire. It’s a great time to focus on divination and increasing your own magical gifts and abilities. Take advantage of these concepts, and plan your workings accordingly.

Decorate your home and altar with candles to welcome the return of the sun. Place a pot of bulbs in your home as your magical focus.

Make Brighid dolls from stems of straw; light a fire to welcome in the new.

Get out and about to search for signs of spring.

This is a good time to find a wand, so hunt for the one that’s meant for you and spend time focusing on it and making it individual to you.

Organize your Book of Shadows to get ready for the start of the spring.

Use candle magic to spell for the stirrings of spring and any tiny flickers of ideas that grow.

MABON/AUTUMN EQUINOX

th
MABON is one of the eight annual holidays, referred to as ‘Sabbats’, which are observed as part of the Wiccan Wheel of the Year. Mabon/Autumn Equinox (22nd September). Solstices occur when the Sun enters Capricorn and Cancer; Equinoxes when the Sun enters Aries and Libra.
This is a time of balance, at the Autumn Equinox, the Sun enters the sign of Libra bringing balance and harmony and, of course, change and transformation. Autumn is a season of reflection, darkness is growing and daylight wanes this is the doorway to winter. The harvest has been gathered and safely stored.
Mabon is a time to prepare for winter, to release the past and move forward. At this time when day and night are in balance, it is a time for us to reconcile our opposites and understand that they are part of the whole use this time to embrace the whole of ourselves, honour them, accept them and celebrate the season, which allows us a chance to start again.
The Goddess slowly withdraws from the land to reside in the Underworld, awaiting the birth of her child at Yule. At Her departure, the Earth withers and dies and the trees burst into fiery colour like torches, marking her departure until Her Spring return.
The gathering in of the Harvest was a time for rituals to the Corn Spirit and Mother Earth. The last sheaf gathered in by the harvesters was sometimes known as Bride or the Corn Maiden, corresponding to the Spring Goddess, Brigide and was wrapped in magic. In Scotland, the Harvest Supper was known as the Feast of the Maiden, the man who cut the last sheaf was known as the ‘Lord of the Harvest’ and given the seat of honour next to the Master (the farmer who laid on the supper for his workers). The young woman who had made the Corn Dolly sat next to him as ‘the Lady’ – she was treated with the greatest respect and the man was treated as her consort. After eating and drinking, there would be dancing and singing until dawn.
Old Harvest customs have gradually waned to be replaced by the Christian Harvest Festival. However, the Pagan rites survive and flourish.
Gods and Goddesses of Mabon- Lord of the Underworld, Queen of the Dead, Persephone, Osiris.
Mabon Incense – Pine Resin, Oak Bark, Blackberry Leaves, Patchouli, Dried Apple.
