Reversed Tarot Cards

tarot-card-reading-7When you shuffle the tarot cards, some often end up facing in different directions. For most of my students I have suggested that they ignore this turn the upside down cards the right way round. Now some of you may be ready to learn more about reversed cards and what they have to offer.

Tarot readings show the collective energies that make up a situation. When you do a reading, your actions and intentions align at that moment with the cards to form a story. The cards capture the energy that’s around you as you shuffle and cut.

At any given moment, some of these energies will be at different levels. Some will be strong and others less so. Some will be just entering your life and others moving away. How you read these energies depends on all the factors going on within the present situation.

When a card is upright, it’s easier to read. When a card is reversed, its energy is not fully developed. It may be in its early stages, or be incomplete or unavailable. Reversed cards are not all negative. Everything depends on what you hope to achieve.

The Sun  card up right shows a positive energy and vitality is openly available. You feel confident and successful. Now is your chance to shine. A reversed Sun shows this same energy is present, but at a lower level. The energy is reduced or limited in some way. You may feel frustrated. You want success, but something is holding you back.

The Empress reversed the energy is blocked try for a baby or difficulties in conceiving.

The Three of Swords up right represents heartache, health matters or betrayal. Reversed, they are also present, but reduced. Perhaps the intensity of a painful episode is fading, or you are feeling sad or lonely. A reversed Three of Swords is more agreeable than an upright one, but it is still a cautionary sign.

In some cases, the reversal hints that you can improve your situation by making a conscious effort. If you have picked the Seven of wands reversed may mean that you’re feeling pressured to do something you don’t want to do.

You can also use pairs that contains a reversed card. For example:

The Sun and the Moon are opposites in the area of clarity – the Sun is enlightenment, the Moon, confusion. In a reading, a reversed Sun and upright Moon you maybe confused right now but greater clarity is soon possible with the Moon being the stronger card.

Try using reversed cards, state your intention to use them during your reading. You might say, I have decided to interpret reversed cards in my readings today. In this way, you acknowledge your decision to work with them.
