Basic Concepts and Techniques of Grounding.
Grounding is one of the first things that we are taught when beginning our practices of energy work and magic. Some people say that it doesn’t work, others abandon the practice of consciously grounding after a time, and some of us leave it behind because it is a basic technique, because we think that more complicated practices are more important. I do stress the importance of grounding, especially when out and around a lot of people, like shopping centres, bars even the gym.
Grounding is a technique that helps keep you in the present. Grounding skills can be helpful in managing over helming feelings or intense anxiety. It helps some people to regain their mental focus from an often intensely emotional state.
Just take a few minutes each day to do your grounding, rather than just visualizing, use all of your senses. During grounding, see the energetic roots growing out from your feet, pushing through the layers going down until it taps into the earth’s energy core. For some people using colour can also be quite helpful, deep earthy colours such as red and browns are always good.
Or just imagine a bright white light drawing upwards from the roots that totally surrounds you. Use the earth energy to protect and support you, imagine it as either a light a cloak or bubble, whatever is easier for you.
Be aware of how your body feels to be grounded. Think about how all your other senses feel with feeling of being grounded. What does everything smell like, taste like, sound like when you are grounded. How do you react to the various environments and people around you, when you are grounded, remember the triggers and feelings that come about when you’re not grounded. I know many of you have at least one time just walked out of a shopping centre or a really busy place because you found it too over whelming, that’s what it feels like to not be grounded.
Crystals can be very helpful in the grounding process. It is best to carry them in a trouser or skirt pocket. You must remember to cleanse and dedicate your chosen crystal for this purpose before using it. A small piece of tumbled stone will be sufficient to carry with you. Here are a few that are easy to obtain that could be used for this purpose.
Red jasper, Hematite, Gold tigers eye, Carnelian, Garnet, Pyrite, Copper, Amber, Unakite.
Here are some of the more common symptoms of being ungrounded.
- A feeling of being ‘Spaced Out’
- Feeling sick
- Heart palpitations
- Eyes flickering
- Weight gain
- Static shocks
- Falling asleep when meditating
- Noise and light sensitive
- Having brilliant ideas that never happen
- Arguing and unable to get your point across
Here are some things you can do that will help you.
- Eating (hence sometimes the weight gain) – healthy & balanced.
- Drinking water
- Walking, especially in natural surroundings
- Sports, yoga, running etc.
- Animals – walking the dog
- Being purposeful
- Visualization of roots & colour
- Carrying or working with crystals
