Major Arcana Tarot Cards
Most classic Tarot decks are comprised of 78 cards, divided into a Major Arcana (22 cards) and a minor Arcana (56 cards).
I often do readings just with the Major Arcana Tarot cards If one my clients is experiencing a lot of changes, then there are important lessons which they must pay attention to in order to progress further in their spiritual and personal journey.
Here are some of the meanings of the cards try picking one for yourself and see what you think its means to you. Dont worry if yours is not below i will be posting more up over the next few weeks.
The Moon card often represents keeping your emotions and feeling to yourself and not liking or letting others see what’s going on with you. Maybe at this time you need to go deep into your soul and bring up your anxieties, fears and psychic blocks to deal with any issues so you can move you forward on your journey, especially if you feel stuck in some way. It can also mean you need to look deeper into situation are you missing something is someone hiding something from you this can include secret motives or hidden truths. The Moon is a card of illusion and deception open your eyes and see what is really going on and then allow your intuition to guide you. And lastly do you have the tendency to be fearful, anxious and worry too much over situations you have no control of? Then try turning it around and seeing things from a more positive and constructive point of view.
The High Priestess is a spiritual growth card do you need to look at the areas in your life that may be a little out of balance also with hindsight you now have more knowledge and a greater understanding of how to fix or deal with things, people or situations this usually comes by lessons already learned or through your intuition so this maybe a good time to take stock of what’s been going on with you or see how far you have already come. Try meditation and listen to your intuitive thoughts trust in yourself more you will find that your intuition will have increased and you will or have grown as a person.
Temperance Card I always call this my guardian angel card, and that you have someone looking after you and guiding you during a difficult or emotional time, stop take a breath sit quietly and look for the signs that loved ones are around you. It is also about patients and timing try not feel that you need to rush everything just let the situation sort its self out at its natural pace. Being calm and balanced is what will help you to achieve a positive outcome and more fulfilment in your life. Do any of these resonate with you? do you need to step back are you pushing things and nothing seems to be going in the right direction, do you need to learn to be calmer and not get so stressed, do you have trouble dealing with change and anything new.
Judgement Picking the Judgement card suggests that you have to realise that you need to live your life in a different way and that you need to be true to yourself and your needs. Try to open yourself up to new possibilities to lead a more fulfilling life. There may something under lying from your past that needs to be healed and now would be a good time to put it behind you and finally be free from any guilt or upset that stems way back even from your childhood. This will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on any new challenges and able move forward in your life.
The Fool is often the beginning of a journey it can mean facing your fears and stepping into the unknown. Do you need to take a leap of faith? Trust that the Universe will lead you in the right direction and all that you wish for will be successful. Maybe you need to be free from worry and stress, try living in the moment rather than planning too far ahead. Sometimes we need to learn to let go of attachments in order to have a fuller and a more fulfilled life, so take chance start that business, change your job or move to a new area, see where life leads you.
Death is a time of transformation, change and transition. You may need to transform yourself and clear away any of the old in order to bring in the new. So there could be some big changes going on around you soon, this may have already started or been going on for a while. This is where all the things in your life that no longer serve your higher purpose or things that you have been putting off that have needed sorting out or that you probably haven’t wanted to deal with, will now change or be removed, this can be people, work, moving or finances, this is a positive card it’s to make room for better things to enter your life embrace it and don’t resist.
The Hermit suggests that you may need to focus inward or look within for the answers you need to understand or know why life is the way it is. This is a perfect time to take a step back and contemplate your motivations, personal journey and values it’s a bit like soul searching. You may want a new direction in life or you have begun a journey of self discovery or you may even want to change something and not sure how too. Most of us reach a point in life when we begin to question everything knowing that there is a deeper meaning to life or that we are filling our potential. You just need to spend some time alone, retreat from the world around you to find purpose or shed of some light on a situation around you.
The Magician If you have decisions to make and you’re not sure what to do and right now you’re looking at all your options you will find everything you need within you. This may be in connection to a new skill or starting something new like a business or a new venture. You will accomplish all your goals by utilising the skills that you already have so look at what are you good at. You will come up with creative ways to solve any problems and you will be able to use your existing knowledge to do a job or project well, for you are probably very good at pulling things together. Maybe you are not using all of the skills or resources that are available to you at this present time, especially if you are worried that a change would be difficult for others to except.
The Star I call this the lucky card it often brings a sign that you are about to be blessed by the universe and that everything you wish for will just falls into place. This is a time of fulfilment when good things are about to enter your life maybe after a troubled time or a period of waiting. It will be a time of calm and positivity bringing with it stability and deeper understanding of yourself, a situation and others that are around you. If you are making some changes in your life or thinking of transforming yourself in some way this would a good time to do so. You may also be feeling that you are finally coming into your own rather than simply following a routine that has little or no meaning to you.
The Empress this is generally about self growth and nurturing yourself and your relationships with others, including your children, be more open and communicate, settle old wounds or pain associated with you and your children. Or maybe issues from your own childhood need to deal with for you to be able to move forward on your journey, indulge and encourage spiritual growth and development for yourself. The Empress may also indicate news of a pregnancy or birth, or it can mean the birth of new ideas and projects, or a simply new and better way of living or being. This is a good time to start on those ideas or new ventures that you have been thinking about so get going J
The Devil this card can represent all that’s hidden that may need addressing, like negative thinking, worrying too much, addictions and dependencies within your life, also alcoholism, taking drugs, unhealthy relationships, even over spending. The Devil represents our fears, addictions, and other things that maybe harmful. You have given into these of your own free will, but you feel stuck like you can’t break free or change. Ask yourself where you are feeling stuck or restricted in your life. Do you feel despair and have a pessimistic view of life because you feel that so much is out of your control, are you giving yourself over to the illusion of helplessness and despair, you have the power within to free yourself from these situations. Maybe it’s as simple as you could be overinvesting yourself in one area at the expense of other areas of your life.
The Lovers If you are finding yourself at odds within a relationship at the moment, this can be auguring or fiction or something more serious like a third person maybe involved. Then you must consider doing the right thing and consider all the consequences of your actions. The choices are never really easy or obvious, the choice is often very much right or wrong, because the wrong one will almost certainly take you down a negative path. You must be completely honest with yourself in your current situation. Maybe you need to examine your motives, your feelings, your options and your personal values. Something is or maybe going to change soon and this experience may look negative on the surface but later may prove to be a blessing in disguise.
The World Card signifies completion, achievement, fulfilment and new beginnings. All of your efforts are finally starting to pay off and you have reached or will soon reach the end of a cycle and it’s now time to move forward. You may have endured many hardships and challenges along the way but these have only made you stronger and probably a whole lot wiser. In the near future you must do all you can to keep your hope and dreams alive. If you may be questioning your own ability on a matter personal to you, then this would be an indication that all will be well and you are on the right path.
The Hierophant this is about study and learning, have you learnt everything you can about your chosen area. If yes, then let that knowledge become known and establish yourself firmly in your field or chosen subject, try to focus on your goals and be determined to succeed its time all that hard work paid off. The Hierophant may also be a wise spiritual mentor someone who you will turn for wisdom and knowledge they may be a kind and generous person who appears on your path to help you to develop your spiritual self. This can also mean an increased awareness to spirit, having spirit around you who are trying to get your attention or an interest in spiritual subjects, maybe it time that you developed a gift or sat in a development circle to learn how to work with or control it.
The Sun Card represents happiness, joy, being childlike and open, or even working with children. People are often drawn to you because you can always see the good in others and you bring warmth or comfort into other people’s lives. Having struggled through the darker times you now know yourself and know where you are heading, you may have dealt with matters from your own childhood and now things are good with you and you feel like you’re starting to achieve your personal goals. You can finally see the path ahead of you and through the hardship you have endured, you have attained a new level of insight and understanding happier times now await you. If you have a question about children then the answer is yes.
The Emperor is about authority, status and legal matters, following rules and regulations. He establishes law and order by applying principles or guidelines to specific situations. There maybe dealings with contracts and documents, something may need your attention soon and this could be in connection to a new job, moving home or business matters. It is also reminder to make a payment of any fines or even managing debt and seeking help with this if need be or abiding by the law. Anything in connection with court orders and county judgements or those that work within the legal profession.
The Hanged Man can mean that you are feeling stuck or restricted in some way in your life and there may be a period of waiting before you can move forward. You may need to accept and surrender to your present situation. If you can hold off on making any decisions for a short period, then you may actually create a different, and better, outcome. This card is about suspension and waiting, and this may be just what you need to do in order to allow new possibilities to show. Sometimes not acting will help to shed more light on the situation, it even change your perception on the matter so you can see what other options that are available to you.
The Wheel of Fortune everything goes in cycles and there will be good times and there will be bad times. We must accept that there are always ups and downs in life. If you were to have only good times, you would become less appreciative of what you have. So if things are a bit down for you at the moment instead of waiting and hoping for things to get better, you can start working towards improving the situation, which will make you feel better and productive. If you picked this card then a change is happening or likely to happen soon. Wheel also represents karma and reminds you that ‘what goes around comes around’.
The Justice card represents justice, fairness, truth and what I also call the karmic card. You or someone you know may be called to account for their actions, and then they will be judged accordingly. Justice shows that you can change the future by a lesson learned in your present situation, is there something in your life that needs attention, mediation or a solution. Justice could also refer to legal matters of all kinds. If you have picked this card are there are legal matters that need to be dealt with, like legal contracts, such as a marriage license, divorce, business contract, financial arrangement or litigation, if so you can expect the outcome to be just and fair. If you are the person wanting justice, know that justice will be served. Remember if you have acted in a deceitful way or have not spoken the truth, be aware that justice will be sort and you will need to take responsibility for your actions.
The Chariot represents overcoming obstacles or challenges even being pulled in two directions you will need to focus completely on the task at hand and take charge, this is a time to be strong and in control you must also draw upon your willpower and self discipline. Sometimes, you may need to come to terms with your feelings, like anger which cannot be suppressed because to do so will only turn it inward on yourself, which often manifests itself in the form of physical illness. Anger can be very destructive but it is also a powerful energy that can be channelled creatively. This is a time when you need to be the master of your emotions and curb any impulses and use it to overcome obstacles.
The Strength card represents strength, determination, and inner power to help you to overcome obstacles. Stay focused on what you need to do, and go about it in the right way. Conquer your fears, control your impulses, and try not to lose patience with yourself or what you are doing, you can master yourself and your problems. Strength offers you hope it asks you to find the confidence within yourself to present yourself to the world as strong and assertive. If you are feeling worn out or stressed at the moment then know that things will soon get better and that you are going to find the strength within yourself to keep going until it does.
The Tower how many times have you felt safe within your life, comfortable in your current thoughts, beliefs and expectations and then suddenly out of the blue, something happens that completely rocks your world. This can be a time of great turmoil as you try to understand how this has happened. It may be in connection to a divorce, death of a loved one, health problems or job loss, any event that is affecting you mentally and physically. It is often a upheaval, disruption, or crisis, and is likely to bring about chaos. The experience forces you to get out of your comfort zone and to grow, after the experience you will have grown stronger, wiser and you will develop a completely new perspective on life.
